I usually get one cold sore blister (hsv1) on my bottom lip. Today I have 4 tiny blisters on my top lip, close in a group but not my normal single blister. Can you catch a new strain of hsv1???

  • I have been sick with the cold for a while now, and very stressed out. I usually get one cold sore a year, and as far back as I remember it’s always been in the same spot on my bottom lip. Today I woke to 4 tiny blisters close together in a group on my upper lip. I have never had an outbreak that looks like this before. Is it possible to catch a different strain of hsv1? Or is it fairly normal to experience different types of blisters? I’m happily married but I realize you can contract hsv1 through sharing drinks etc.
